The mural "War and Peace" by Otto Dix.
The only surviving mural by the artist can be found in Singen Town Hall.
With "War and Peace", the only surviving mural by Otto Dix, which measures 5 by 12 meters and is one of the most monumental works created by the artist, Singen am Hohentwiel is a special destination among the Otto Dix towns in Baden-Württemberg. In 2024, the mural will also be open to visitors at weekends during the Whitsun and national summer vacations in Baden-Württemberg, on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 am to 5 pm.
Otto Dix (1891-1969) is one of Germany's most important artists. His late work is closely associated with the town of Singen. In 1960, the painter was commissioned by the town to create the mural "War and Peace" for the newly built Singen Town Hall. While the artist's other representative murals were lost during the Nazi era and in the Second World War, only the mural in Singen's town hall has survived. A historically and artistically fascinating work that is exemplary of post-war modernism awaits your visit.
