As an existential and powerful feeling, love is the central theme of human existence. Based on the well-known artwork "The Kiss" by Edvard Munch, the exhibition in the Spendhaus questions romanticized interpretations of depictions of love. Discourses on power and gender relations, (de)constructions of relationships and sexual identity become visible. In this field of tension, the exhibition confronts woodcuts by Max Beckmann, Otto Dix, HAP Grieshaber, Paul Nash and Félix Vallotton with the contemporary practice of artists. "Love Will Tear Us Apart" is an exhibition on the visual ambiguity of love and shows how multi-layered this strong feeling can be.
