The "From the Treasures of the Simplicissimus House" series shows works of fine art that take Grimmelshausen's literary work as their theme or takes selected works of art from the museum's archive and presents them to the public.
In 2011, Hamburg-based artist Martin Conrad created 18 drawings on the subject of BALDANDERS. In 2013, they formed the core of an exhibition he conceived at Bruchsal Castle: "BALDANDERS - Positions on the Baroque". Inspired by Grimmelshausen's SIMPLICISSIMUS, they deal with the formal language of that era in terms of color and composition. The rarely treated sixth book, CONTINUATIO, features BALDANDERS as a symbol of constant change - a motif typical of the Baroque period, in which Fortuna appears, revealing life as a permanent process of transformation.
Martin Conrad's drawings are a painterly and graphic highlight and of particular quality. The cycle has recently become part of the permanent collection of the Simplicissimus House.
