During the peak travel season for Germans—in the summer of 2027—the Stihl Waiblingen Gallery will present the exhibition “Großer Bahnhof!” exploring the themes of train stations, trains, and rail travel in art. The works on display range from early Impressionist pieces to photographs and contemporary multimedia works.
The exhibition is guided by the central idea that railway station architecture in art is always more than just infrastructure. The station and its surroundings—such as tracks, trains, and passengers—are explored as a space of experience—a place of acceleration, imagination, mobility, and identification. Since the 19th century, train stations, trains, and rail travel have inspired artists in painting, drawing, photography, and film to explore themes of time,
