In Bitcherland, 80% of the trees felled are processed outside the Vosges mountains, and the timber industry depends mainly on exogenous parameters, linked to a complex economic map spread across the globe. This stark observation illustrates one of the paradoxes of the rural world in the face of globalized markets: the region's own resources are exported, while goods produced on other continents populate our homes and public spaces. Against this backdrop, isn't it right to take a fresh look at this renewable, non-dispatchable resource, and to reawaken dormant knowledge, know-how and practices in order to revitalize this local industry?
This exhibition, produced by the Communauté de Communes du Pays de Bitche, provides a sensitive overview of the local wood industry and opens up the prospects for an ambitious revitalization project for the future.
