The exhibition, which was previously on view at the Bucerius Kunst Forum as part of the 9th Hamburg Photography Triennial in 2026, highlights F. C. Gundlach’s (1926–2021) multifaceted career and his international influence as a photographer, collector, gallery owner, and networker. As a fashion photographer, he shaped the image of fashion and the associated notions of trends, identity, and gender in German and international magazines beginning in the 1950s. The exhibition features a total of around 200 works: In addition to his own photographs—ranging from legendary magazine covers and fashion spreads to previously unseen black-and-white and color images—the exhibition also features numerous works by his role models, contemporaries, and successors, such as Edward Steichen, Erwin Blumenfeld, Regina Relang, Cindy Sherman, Richard Avedon, and Nan Goldin from his collection.
