The 25 outstanding works of the Expressionism Foundation at the Kunstmuseum Bern were assembled by Hans Rudolf and Silvia Tschumi, a family from the Bern area.

The founders set themselves the goal of filling gaps in the holdings of the Kunstmuseum Bern and making their collection accessible to the public. The exhibition presents the foundation's holdings in their entirety for the first time. Highlights include paintings by German Expressionists from the groups Die Brücke (The Bridge) and Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider), such as Emil Nolde, Max Pechstein, Heinrich Campendonk, Gabriele Münter and Marianne von Werefkin, works by the Basel-based group Rot-Blau (Red-Blue), and expressive positions from international post-war art, such as Karel Appel, Sam Francis and Teruko Yokoi.

The exhibition is dedicated to the donor Hans Rudolf Tschumi (1928–2025) in his memory, and to the donor Silvia Tschumi.
