Students from the sculpture class are presenting sculptural works at the Weissenhof Workshop in the Mies van der Rohe House. The title is a reference to the poster designed by Willi Baumeister in 1927 for the Werkbund exhibition ‘DIE WOHNUNG’ (The Dwelling).
The starting point is the historical function of the Weissenhof Estate as an exhibition and showcase for new forms of living and building. This relationship between art, architecture and presentation is explored spatially in the exhibition.
As a central element, a room-filling plinth is created for DIE AUSSTELLUNG (The Exhibition), upon which the artists’ individual works are displayed. The plinth presumes to be read as an architectural design for the Weissenhof Estate itself and compels visitors to navigate the space in an entirely new way.
Within this spatial context, the students’ individual works enter into a dialogue with one another and with their architectural surroundings. Thematically, they engage in various ways with the Weissenhofsiedlung, the Bauhaus and the associated concepts of architecture, housing and life, and transpose these into a new context.
