The Melanchthonhaus library owns many valuable old prints, including rare first editions and works with Melanchthon's own handwritten inscriptions. Several of these treasures were in a catastrophic state. In order to save them from final decay, the Melanchthonhaus turned to book lovers for support. As part of the "Book Sponsorships" project, several old prints and original letters from the 16th century have been restored to their former glory.
The exhibition presents a selection of restored books and manuscripts that have been painstakingly rescued. Using selected examples, the exhibition provides an insight into the restoration work carried out. Photographic documentation illustrates the work carried out on the books and letters on display.
