Content

Bloom up! is the first joint exhibition by the Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden and the Badisches Landesmuseum.

Hardly any motif is as ubiquitous, versatile, and expressive as the flower. For millennia, it has been present in human societies as an ornament, an attribute, or a symbol. Flowers evoke strong emotions, vivid memories, and powerful images—shaped by their beauty, their scent, and their diverse meanings.

Contemporary artistic perspectives encounter art-historical and cultural-historical objects from the collections of the Badisches Landesmuseum. In the interplay between contemporary art and historical artifacts, floral motifs continually take on new meanings: as symbols of political movements, as expressions of longing and resistance, or as carriers of personal memories.

“Bloom up!” opens up new perspectives on the cultural, social, and personal meanings of the flower and reveals how closely art, history, and the present are interwoven.
