Lecture.
The portrait of Emmi Hepp has been featured in major exhibitions, most recently in 2025 at the Kunsthalle Mannheim and the Museum zu Allerheiligen in Schaffhausen. However, very little was previously known about the woman depicted. The only reference in the literature is that Emmi Hepp was the wife of master optician Eugen Hepp, a member of the Hepp family of opticians from Konstanz-Singen.

Through extensive research in archives and interviews with eyewitnesses, Elisabeth Schraut has succeeded in unearthing previously unknown material and reconstructing Emmi Hepp’s biography. Her findings also allow for a new interpretation of Otto Dix’s well-known painting.

The lecture also references the current exhibition “Zusammenspiel. The Höri Artists” at the Kunstmuseum Singen. Following the lecture, attendees will have the opportunity to visit the exhibition as well as Otto Dix’s mural “War and Peace” at Singen City Hall.
