Tackling conflicts, but how? Lecture and discussion with sociologist Ueli Mäder
Conflicts shape our everyday lives and public events. How do we deal with them, personally and socially: What helps? How can we better understand and manage conflicts? We will discuss this using the example of concrete everyday experiences and our perception of world events.
The event marks the start of a panel and discussion series organized by the Förderverein Stadtmuseum Schopfheim FÖSS under the title "Treffpunkt Museum".

In his contribution, sociologist Ueli Mäder will use illustrative examples to introduce the causes of today's wars and conflicts. He shows why military force and armament do not solve crises, but often exacerbate them. In view of current global developments, the fundamental question of our social values arises once again. Referring to Erich Fromm's "To have or to be?", Mäder makes it clear that wars are closely linked to the pursuit of power and possessiveness. Peace, on the other hand, requires structural justice and a democratic culture of dialog and debate.
