For 4 hours, a guide is going to lead visitors on a tour of the Schirmeck security camp, where 15 000 Alsatians and Mosellans were detained during the Second World War because of the resistance to the Nazi regime.
The tour, led by a cultural mediator, is structured around three key stages, offering a rich and immersive experience:
Historical Context (around 1 hour)
Through a selected rooms within the Mémorial Alsace-Moselle, the visit begins with an introduction to the historical background that led to the creation of the Schirmeck Security Camp.
Archival Presentation (around 15 minutes)
Visitors are then given the opportunity to discover original objects and archival documents from the camp, taken out from the Memorial’s reserves for this occasion.
Walk (around 2.5 hours / 5 km)
The experience concludes with a guided 5-kilometre walk through the towns of Schirmeck and La Broque, tracing the key locations and emblematic sites linked to the camp’s history.
This guided tour features three highlights:
- an evocation of the historical context of the camp's creation, through an hour tour of some of the Memorial's rooms
