Song & Dance in Attaignants Print
As early as the 15th century, it was customary at the Burgundian court to play originally sung chansons on the recorder. With his collection "27 Chansons musicales à quatre parties", the music printer Pierre Attaingnant took up this tradition in 1533, in which he identified selected pieces as particularly suitable for "la fleuste a neuf trous", i.e. the recorder. In this program, the danced solo galliards - fiery leaping dances that can also be found in Attaingnant's prints - form a counterpoint to the vocal chansons.
