Hebelhaus Hausen
The museum of local history, which was opened in 1960, is now also home to a literature collection and the collection of Johann Peter Hebel whose 250th birthday was celebrated in May 2010. The permanent exhibition showcases the original place in which Hebel spent most of his childhood - which he had to leave after his mother had died before his eyes and to which he dedicated his first major literary success, the “Allemannischen Gedichte” (Alemanic poetry) in 1803. His poetry grants deep insight into his life which was dominated by turmoil. The Hebelhaus is the most important memorial for this author, pedagogue and theologian and is home to the “Hebelfest” (Hebel festivity), which has been taking place annually since 1860. The exhibition also presents important literary interpretations of Hebel's works, in particular the ‘calendar stories.' Another section of the exhibition is dedicated to the “Hebelpreis” (Hebel award), its winners and the “Hausener Hebeltradition” (the town's Hebel tradition). The exhibition is complemented by audio files, pictures and films.
