The Saverne museum is the oldest municipal museum in Alsace after the museums of Strasbourg and Colmar. The museum was founded in 1858, and the city of Saverne showcases the first archeological finds in the region, the finds discovered during the building of the Marne-Rhine Canal in 1845 and paintings from the churches of Sarverne and from the castle. From the very beginning, the museum has had the task of preserving the cultural heritage of Saverne.
