Place of remembrance of the Habsburgs
Königsfelden Abbey is internationally renowned for its medieval stained glass windows. Exhibitions, guided tours and events bring the 700-year-old monastery church back to life. The monastery was founded in 1309 by Queen Elisabeth in memory of her murdered husband King Albrecht of Habsburg. The double monastery with Franciscans and Poor Clares existed until 1529. What remains of the monastery complex today is the imposing monastery church with its famous stained glass windows, a masterpiece of late medieval glass painting.
