History and tradition
The former armory of the Germersheim Fortress is home to a museum that is unique in Germany, the German Road Museum. On an indoor and outdoor exhibition area of approx. 5,000m², the subject of the "road" is illuminated from the caravan route of early times to the high-tech highway of modern times.

There is a horse-drawn roller from 1800 in the middle of a building site, which shows what was going on at the turn of the century using materials and equipment. The work and tools of engineers, models of engineering structures and plans for roads and bridges are also on display, as are laboratory equipment and surveying instruments from all eras.

There are various stations for children where they can be active.

From the end of October 2025, the new permanent exhibition "Tunnel and Bridge Construction" awaits you.

Guided tours, also in foreign languages, on request.

The German Road Museum has conference rooms for seminars for up to 100 people.
