Waldemar Maier, born in Singen in 1913, worked as a civil servant and later as a self-employed businessman before turning increasingly to painting in 1972. His drawing teacher at grammar school, Franz Ziegelmüller, who also gave him private lessons in later years, gave him an early impetus towards art. Maier, who was self-taught in his approach to art, was primarily oriented towards the expressionist formal language that characterized art before and after the First World War. Loosely placed, strongly colored surfaces accentuate.
