Vanguardists

With *Vanguardistas*, the Kunstmuseum Basel is presenting the first large-scale retrospective exhibition in Switzerland dedicated to female artists from Latin America. Alongside internationally renowned names such as Frida Kahlo, Doris Salcedo, and Lygia Clark, visitors will encounter artists whose work is largely unknown in Europe. Many of the works are on view here for the first time. Exploring the interplay of identity, social change, and self-empowerment, the exhibition demonstrates how female artists from Latin America have played a decisive role in shaping cultural and political developments as well as avant-garde art practices.
