“Shhh…! The World of Young Monks and Nuns” is an interactive educational program for children and teens ages eight and up. In the former treasury in the monastery courtyard, young visitors can playfully immerse themselves in the medieval life of the Cistercians.
First, they meet five characters who guide them through the interactive experience. Then the children take on the roles of novices themselves and receive a fitting medieval monastic name from the “Nam-o-mat.” In the creatively designed rooms, they learn how choir monks and lay brothers lived, believed, and worked. In the process, they discover the daily routines, rules, and duties of the monastic community.
Numerous interactive stations invite them to try things out: Young guests can write like a monk, build a round arch, and explore other aspects of daily life at the monastery. Based on the principle of “learning through experience,” the monastery’s history is presented in an age-appropriate, vivid, and engaging way.
“Young Monastic World” can only be visited as part of a guided tour. To participate, you must book a time slot in advance at the Maulbronn Monastery Information Center.
