Sacred images! The ex-voto in popular, contemporary and non-Western art" exhibition

The Musée de l'Image Populaire - François Lotz in Val-de-Moder, in collaboration with Claudia Dapino of the Strasbourg gallery WYRD, has created an exhibition on the theme of ex-votos. From February 3, 2024, you'll be able to discover this unusual object, which has been part of human daily life for thousands of years.

Originally, these objects were offerings left in a sacred place for a deity, to obtain protection, healing or the fulfillment of a wish, but also to thank a higher power for a grace bestowed.
Today, many of them are used for decorative purposes, particularly the famous sacred hearts that can be seen everywhere. We also find them in public spaces in the form of padlocks hung on bridges by lovers, coins dropped in fountains, little words left in special spaces or ribbons tied to tree branches.
