The Kunstmuseum Basel is showing prints from all creative phases of the US Pop Art legend Roy Lichtenstein (1923-1997). Thanks to a generous donation from the Roy Lichtenstein Foundation, which is now on display for the first time, the Kupferstichkabinett is one of the most important Lichtenstein collections outside the USA.
From iconic comic explosions to new interpretations of well-known works of art, the exhibition offers fascinating insights into five decades of experimentation. Serigraphs, etchings, lithographs, woodcuts and linocuts illustrate how Lichtenstein incorporated the visual language of everyday culture into art - and thus fundamentally changed its forms of expression. Let yourself be carried away by around 35 works into Lichtenstein's colorful, ironic and lively world.
