NETWORK EXHIBITION of around 40 museums from north-western Switzerland, Alsace and southern Baden
The exhibition tells of everyday life on a ship in the past and today. A variety of stories from a journey through time about inland shipping and people who are at home en route. Skippers and former skippers' children talk about their life on the ship, about homesickness when the skippers' children come to school and have to go to the skippers' children's home. Far away from their families. Provisioning is also discussed, as well as social aspects such as trade unions, shipping companies and, above all, associations. Working and living on a ship requires manual skills, cleanliness, reliability, responsibility, good organizational skills and a great sense of security. Contrary to popular opinion about life on a ship, the exhibition also dispels some clichés.
