Festivals are at the heart of our coexistence - they connect generations, tell of hope, change and belonging. There have always been celebrations in Weil am Rhein and its districts: at home in small groups, on streets and squares, across borders. The exhibition invites you on a journey through the local festive culture - from traditional family celebrations to large public events. It also shows how celebrations have changed over the decades. The oldest festivals are rooted in religious or agricultural traditions. In most cases, these occasions, where common rituals are practiced, have a fixed place in the calendar year. One example is the Alemannic carnival, which has always adapted to changes. The same applies to town (district) festivals, which are not only cultural highlights but also reflect social developments. However, festivals can also be criticized when it comes to questions such as "Who is allowed to celebrate where and how?".
