Christian Brandl (*1970) is a painter of quiet tones, precise composition and psychological depth. Trained at the HGB Leipzig (Academy of Fine Arts), Christian Brandl belongs to the "New Leipzig School" and is a representative of the tradition that sees figurative painting as a serious, multi-layered form of expression. His work stands in the field of tension between stage-like stagings and images of life. The pictorial compositions oscillate between sharp observations and unspoken secrets, between cool elegance and emotional condensation in cinematically muted tones with a retro touch. It is precisely through this ambivalence that Christian Brandl succeeds in surviving in a noisy art world with quiet strength and creating images that are highly memorable.
