The Weissenhof Estate was established in 1927 as part of the Werkbund exhibition “Die Wohnung” (The Dwelling) as a visionary experiment on the future of housing and is considered a milestone in architectural history. Under the artistic direction of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, 17 international architects brought their ideas to life. Today, the settlement bears the European Heritage Label. The two houses designed by Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2016.

In 2027, the Weissenhof Estate will celebrate its 100th anniversary. With the new Weissenhof.Forum, a visitor center is being built at the entrance to the estate, which—together with Le Corbusier’s duplex—will open a new chapter in the presentation of this unique ensemble.

The lecture will present the history of the Weissenhof Estate and the Weissenhof Museum. It also provides insights into the current plans for the 2027 anniversary year. What new opportunities are emerging for visits, educational programs, and engagement with modernist architecture? And how will the Weissenhof Estate be experienced in the future as a vibrant site of architectural history?
