Event at Schauwerk Sindelfingen 11/06/2026
On Thursday, June 11, 2026 at 4:45 pm, Schauwerk Sindelfingen invites you to an exclusive event in collaboration with the Museums-PASS-Musées.
Three great special exhibitions currently await you at Schauwerk Sindelfingen. A guided tour is offered in German for each of the three exhibitions. When registering, please select the guided tour you would like to take part in.
Guided tour through the exhibition OPEN HORIZONS
With selected works of art from the Schaufler Collection, the exhibition OPEN HORIZONS takes as its theme the scenic dividing line between heaven and earth and at the same time shows how art - in a figurative sense - opens up the horizon and creates new perspectives. The exhibition is conceived as a memorial to the collector couple Peter Schaufler († 2015) and Christiane Schaufler-Münch († 2025). It brings together highlights from the collection, from early acquisitions such as Fritz Ruoff's string collage to recent acquisitions, including Sam Falls The Black Forest and Bertrand Lavier's Walt Disney Productions 1947-2019 n°2. The diversity of artists' approaches to the theme of landscape and the horizon line - in both the real and figurative sense - is made clear by the selection: from representational to abstract works, from painting to photography to sculpture.
Guided tour through the exhibition MARIO SCHIFANO - WHEN I REMEMBER
The SCHAUWERK Sindelfingen is dedicating the first museum exhibition in Germany to Mario Schifano (1934-1998), one of the most important Italian artists of the second half of the 20th century. The exhibition presents the entirety of his artistic universe from his beginnings in the early 1960s to his final creative phase in the 1990s. The diversity of his oeuvre is illustrated by over 80 works in various genres: Painting, collage, drawing, film and photography. Schifano's works contain numerous biographical and historical references: the wild 1960s, the Vietnam War, encounters with the Rolling Stones and his immersion in the New York art scene around Andy Warhol. However, his oeuvre is not only about experiences and memories, it is also a story about success and failure, about passions and inner conflict, strengths and weaknesses, and about coming to terms with art and artistic existence. The retrospective is being organized in close collaboration with the Fondazione Marconi (Milan) and with the support of the Archivio Mario Schifano (Rome). Never-before-exhibited loans from private collections and museums meet works from the Schaufler Collection.
Guided tour of the exhibition NO PLACE LIKE HOME - Italian photography since the 1980s
NO PLACE LIKE HOME is the first major survey exhibition to present the development of photography in Italy since the 1980s and shows how the country, which emerged from the post-war economic boom, has developed its own photographic visual language. Around 300 works open up a perspective on Italy through the eyes of 42 photographers. The spectrum of works on display includes numerous portraits, conceptual and serial works, social, political and societal images and landscape photographs, which have a special place in Italian art. In addition to internationally renowned photographers of the 1980s such as Guido Guidi, Gabriele Basilico and Luigi Ghirri, the exhibition also focuses on the artistically significant phase of the 1990s and early 2000s as well as on a young generation that has provided new impetus over the past two decades. Many artists explore the medium of photography itself: sometimes traditional, sometimes progressive, but always touching and far removed from the clichés of "Dolce Vita" and "Bella Italia".
After the guided tours, an aperitif awaits you in the Schauwerk Sindelfingen café.
