Round table on communicating with plants
Discussion with Prof. Dr. Peter Nick, KIT, and curator Dr. Yvonne Volkart, FHNW, on the current group exhibition Plants_Intelligence at Badischer Kunstverein

In this discussion at the interface between natural science, research and art, the guests will focus on the communication of plants and the cross-species communication of plants with other life forms such as insects and microorganisms. Among other things, they will address the question of the extent to which plant communication is a key to adapting our agriculture to climate change.

This is also one of the themes of the artists of Plants_Intelligence: Sabian Baumann, Ursula Damm, Kyriaki Goni, Ingela Ihrman, Jochen Lempert (invited by Christiane Meyer-Stoll), Julia Mensch, Mathilde Rosier, Una Szeemann and Zheng Bo.

Peter Nick heads the Molecular Cell Biology research group at the Botanical Institute of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). His work focuses on the conservation of natural spaces and species, biodiversity and the use and further development of plant characteristics.
Yvonne Volkart is a researcher at the Institute Art Gender Nature, University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland FHNW in Basel. She leads the research project Plants_Intelligence. Learning like a Plant (2021-2025) and is co-curator of the exhibition Plants_Intelligence.
