Guided tour of the new pop-up exhibition at the Forum.
Every third Thursday of the month, we invite you to enjoy cultural highlights featuring interviews, guided tours, and discussions. Tonight’s event is dedicated to the life and work of Lenzburg painter Margrit Haemmerli.

Margrit Haemmerli is one of the women featured in our special exhibition “Pioneers. Artists. Thinkers.” who achieved great things in Lenzburg. For the first time in 40 years, her work is once again on display in a museum exhibition.

The exhibition focuses on the major body of work by the Lenzburg artist Margrit Haemmerli (1900–1979). Shaped by her youth in Lenzburg—in the home of her parents, the poet Sophie Marti and the physician Max Haemmerli—and her training in Basel, Munich, and Paris, she developed a distinctive, expressive visual language in the late 1930s.

During her stays in Paris—a center of international modernism—she created vibrant landscapes, nudes, and (self-)portraits characterized by bold colors, simplified forms, and dynamic brushwork. As one of the early representatives of international modernism in Switzerland, Haemmerli was a true pioneer for Lenzburg, whose work extends far beyond regional boundaries.

On display are outstanding paintings that were recently generously donated to the Museum Burghalde Foundation by the artist’s family. The exhibition is complemented by selected drawings that offer insight into her meticulous working process and demonstrate how her distinctive visual language emerged from careful observation.
