The final presentation of the art mediation project for the National Future Day focuses on one of the most humble souvenirs of all: the refrigerator magnet. Small, inexpensive, and conveniently sized for carry-on luggage, it promises to preserve memories. Yet magnets are, above all, one thing: consumer goods that sneak into our homes—and into our wallets—without us even noticing.
Together, we’ll take a closer look at these little mementoes and design our own magnets, somewhere between souvenir kitsch and personal memories.
The presentation will be developed by the participants of the National Future Day at the Kunsthalle Basel on 12.11.2026, in collaboration with the Kunsthalle Basel team. The works on display were created by different groups during five workshops inspired by Gili Tal’s exhibition Light and Airy.
