The festival “Châteaux & Légendes”, organized by the Collectivité européenne d’Alsace, invites visitors to explore Alsatian castles through a fantastical lens, blending heritage, imagination, and artistic practice.
Alsace, a land rich in castles, is home to around a hundred medieval fortresses—an inexhaustible source of tales, myths, and legends.
Under the artistic direction of John Howe, the concept artist behind The Lord of the Rings film trilogy, the festival aims to re-enchant these historic sites by creating a dialogue between medieval and contemporary imaginary worlds.
The 2026 edition, titled “The Song of the Stones,” will highlight creatures of the earth—such as stone giants, kobolds, dwarves, and gnomes—echoing the geological richness of the Upper Rhine region.
The Château du Hohlandsbourg will be transformed for a day into a living theater, featuring a wide range of activities for all ages: performances, artistic workshops, music, and staged combat scenes.
Step into the medieval world of castles and let yourself be carried away by “The Song of the Stones”!
