The temporary exhibition "Des mondes dans la bataille : Verdun 1916", designed to complement the permanent exhibition at the Verdun Memorial, sheds new light on the minorities involved in the two enemy armies.

On both the French and German sides, men and women from all walks of life approached, experienced and took part in this extraordinary battle. They approached it differently, depending on their origin and social situation. Their little-known stories shed light on different experiences and points of view, enriching the grand narrative of the Battle of Verdun.

Alongside the fate of soldiers enlisted in the French Colonial Empire, from the Maghreb, West Africa and South-East Asia, the exhibition invites you to discover the life paths of others: Danes enlisted in the German army, Belgian and Russian civilian and military prisoners of war, American and British medical personnel, Alsatians-Mosellans and Poles divided between the two armies, and individuals with atypical backgrounds from different parts of the world...

This exhibition pays tribute to their lives, their personal destinies entangled in history, revealing a whole humanity immersed in war.
