The Musée d'Histoire Naturelle et d'Ethnographie in Colmar was founded in 1859 by the Société « savante » d'Histoire Naturelle (SHN). It comprises zoological and geological collections as well as 2,000 non-European objects, which were brought to Colmar between 1845 and 1930 from all over the world. The museum is in close contact with other French national museums, German and Swiss museums. It also offers a museum pedagogic event programme and various conferences, excursions and workshops that inform the public about environmental protection.
