Branch Museum of the Badisches Landesmuseum Karlsruhe
Keramikmuseum Staufen
Keramikmuseum Staufen
The Museum for Ceramics was opened in July 1991 as branch of the Baden Museum of Local History, Karlsruhe. The basement houses the complete workshop of the potter Josef Maier (1898-1940s). Visitors enjoy in-depth insight into the tradition of pottery in the Upper Rhine region. The first floor of the museum is dedicated to works by the ceramist Egon Bregger. He had taken over the workshop in 1948 after his marriage to Emma Maier, Josef's daughter. The collection showcases the developments from the Bauhaus style to other traditional other forms. Works by Elisabeth Winter-Bonn are also displayed on the first floor. The ground floor invites visitors to special exhibitions of the Baden Museum of Local History as well as contemporary artists' exhibitions.
