Villingen-Schwenningen
Germany
The half-timbered building of the early 18th century is one of the oldest buildings in Schwenningen and home to the local museum of history since 1931. The current collection offers four highlights: Alemanni at the source of the river Neckar, historic farm houses,Black Forestclocks and the Hellmut-Kienzle watch collection.

On the ground level visitors can find out about the lives and historical contexts of the people who lived in Schwenningen 1,300 years ago. The first floor is dedicated to historical farm houses dating back to the beginning of the museum. They show perfectly how the people used to live in Schwenningen in the 19th century. The second floor is reserved for watches. The production of cheap watches for the European market changed the situation in the Black Forest in the 18th century. The collection ‘Hellmut-Kienzle-Uhrensammlung' of high-quality watches from the 16th to 19th century from every important European watchmaking centre was opened in 2010 and focuses on pocket watches.
