THE WELL-TUNED PIANO IN THE MAGENTA LIGHTS
In 1963, the minimalist American composer La Monte Young, a key figure of contemporary music, created the first Dream House, a sound and meditation space, with his wife Marian Zazeela. In the next year, La Monte Young began work on a central project: The Well-Tuned Piano (corresponding to Bach's Well-Tempered Piano), regarded as his masterpiece.
In this piano solo, improvised over 6 hours in a light installation designed by his wife, the musician plays with the principle of the right intonation or the pure intonation. In his quest for an eternal music, La Monte Young develops beneath his fingers a sustainable sound and allows us to appreciate his influence on perception.
