Three years after the death of Gerhard Vormwald, we are showcasing the work of this artist, who studied and worked to considerable acclaim in Mannheim before going on to astound the world with his visual creativity. His surreal photographs amazed the beholder: how is that possible? Reinold Misselbeck summed it up in "Photographie des 20. Jahrhunderts": "Vormwald made a name for himself as a pioneer of staged commercial photography that was inspired by surreal elements. The particular appeal of the photographic permutation lay in the fact that in the picture that which was physically impossible looked real". Vormwald combined his passion for innovation with a self-imposed demand for the highest technical standards. The exhibition shows his early street photography, the great successes of his career and some stunning, more recent works from his late years.
