Ute Beck from Stuttgart likes to play with opposites and contradictions. Her gate vases (Gittervasen) are devoid of any function, mere citations of classical vessels, which seem to be enjoying their new freedom, some of them almost frolicking in motion. In her new series "Gloss and Gleam" (Glanz und Glimmer), the artist alludes to the excess and the decadence of the baroque age - and actually means us. Pouches, bulging and empty, gleaming in gold and silver, with one or two openings, give rise to all sorts of associations, which the artist evokes with a twinkle of the eye.
