A selection from the Brown family's rich stock of postcards brings us closer to a bygone world that sometimes appears incredibly alien, and sometimes strangely familiar.
Postcards were to the 1900s what social media is to our own era: many thousands of messages of greeting would be sent every day in Switzerland. The Browns were no different, making copious use of this mass medium for exchanges with family, friends, and acquaintances all over the world, in the form of these small illustrated message cards. Over the years a wealth of postcards accumulated. With their period-specific visual language, they bring us closer to a bygone world that sometimes appears incredibly alien, and sometimes strangely familiar. These historical postcard greetings provide starting points for the exhibition «Fond Greetings».
The «Showcase Archive» was given its own presentation room on the first floor for the first time in 2021. Since 2019, the format has presented selected archival items from the extensive holdings of the museum archive on a theme that changes twice a year. In 2022, the focus is on historical postcard greetings and the Langmatt as a musical meeting place.
