The Swiss photographer René Groebli is one of the most adventurous personalities in the history of photography. He studied at the School of Applied Arts in Zurich in Hans Finsler's class, and in 1948 he graduated with a diploma as a cameraman for documentary films. However, Groebli then took a different path and became a brilliant black-and-white photographer. In the early 1950s, he worked as a reportage photographer for LIFE and various other magazines, and also for the London agency Black Star in Africa and the Middle East.
His photo story "Magic Rail" has gone down in photographic history, and his photographic love poem "The Eye of Love" was later acquired by the Museum of Modern Art.
