Pierre-Paul Prud'hon

Fragments of an amorous discourse
Pierre-Paul Prud'hon never gave up on his dreams and with quiet obstinacy shook up academic art, as it was envisaged by his contemporaries and above all by Louis David, a fierce supporter of an art devoid of sensuality and anchored in the grandeur of Roman virtues. His singular position and his artistic skill make him a bridge-builder, an essential milestone between the art of the Ancien Régime and the Romanticism of the 19th century, reflecting an era while going beyond it. He was always in search of the female aspects of his masculinity, finding in his artistic expression the modern interpretation of eternal subjects. Hundreds of exceptional works by this artist are on display on the occasion of the bicentenary of his death.
A must-see.
