Architecture, literature, painting and also the art of jewellery flourished in the Indian Mughal Empire. Indian Mughal jewellery from the 16th to the 18th century in particular is characterised by the highest creative and technical quality. Rich in precious stones and gold, it nevertheless does not appear overloaded, but testifies to a pronounced sense of aesthetics and refinement - not to be compared with the Maharajah jewellery of the 19th century, which was primarily oriented towards external effect. From a private collection, the exhibition shows outstanding pieces of the goldsmith's and stone-cutter's art from this extremely important cultural period in India, which have never been shown to the public before. A few exceptional pieces of Mughal jewellery from international museums will also be presented.
