A journey to Japan led to the new orientation of the raku-ceramist. Since 2003 Michel Cohen has been firing in his own anagama kiln in the Hautes-Alpes, emulating the sophisticated techniques of Japanese wood-firing. His cracked vessels, marked by nature, have an international presence and are virtually unsurpassed in their dramatic allure due to the diversity and density of effects by the artist's hand and the natural ash glaze. The force of nature in the fire that he unleashed appears to be burnt into the clay.
