Living in a Box: Design in Comic and Cartoon

Exhibitions
From

Since their inception in the early 20th century, comics and cartoons have become a global phenomenon. The Vitra Design Museum exhibition »Living in a Box« demonstrates the close relationship of comics and cartoons to design. Classic furnishings and interiors depicted in these genres can reflect the personalities of the figures who inhabit them; at other times designs are subject to acerbic irony or used to create futuristic visions, and references to political and social issues are often evident. The exhibition presents furnishings that appear in both well-known and less familiar comics. It features comics that have made design history, as well as objects that have been influenced by cartoons and comics.
