The first retrospective in Switzerland of the internationally most important painter of her generation. Since the 1990s, Katharina Grosse has been developing a body of work that is groundbreaking for its monumentality, performativity and mediality. In 1998, she made her breakthrough into insitu painting with an intervention at the Kunsthalle Bern. From there, she has conquered not only buildings but also landscapes and whole city districts with colour. The exhibition interrogates her achievements in the field of panel painting and examines how the radical power of colour can also have a socio-political effect and turn conventional art-historical thinking on its head. With this show, the Kunstmuseum Bern continues its tradition of dealing with great women artists.
