Like no other city, Venice continues to fascinate artists to this day. The exhibition in the Graphikkabinett takes visitors to the lagoon city, always following in the footsteps of Mainz artists such as Peter Halm, Sophie Grosch and Guido Ludes, who travelled to Venice in the 19th and 20th centuries. The graphic artists who travelled to Italy were drawn from their native Rhine to the Adriatic, to this very special and unique city with its canals and campi.
"This city, half fairy tale, half tourist trap", as Thomas Mann so aptly wrote, is presented in the prints, drawings, photos and artist's books on display from its magnificent and mysterious side. A sound installation by video artist Christoph Brech rounds off this "Venice feeling".
