Whether birthdays, New Year's Eve or simply the end of the day together, alcohol plays an important role in social interaction. This is not a contemporary phenomenon: beer and wine have been produced and consumed for 10,000 years. Nowadays, as in the past, drinking alcoholic beverages is rooted in many cultures. So was and is alcohol the “glue” of our society? And how does it create community, identity and at the same time social demarcation? These and other exciting questions are explored in the large special exhibition "Intoxicating", spanning an arc from the Stone Age to the present day. Discover around 250 impressive objects that illustrate the history of beer and wine and highlight their social role.
