Hand in hand
An exhibition of embroidery program Guldusi
For the second time, the Guldusi embroidery program launched by the German-Afghan Initiative (DAI e.V.) is making a guest appearance at the Max Berk Textile Collection. The association, founded in 2002 by Germans and Afghans in Freiburg, primarily realizes school projects in Afghanistan, but has also been promoting the financial situation of Afghan women and thus also their families since 2004 through embroidery projects in Laghmani (north of Kabul) and near Herat (western Afghanistan).
The hand-embroidered unique pieces are sold by the DAI in Europe and serve there partly as "seedlings" for artistic-creative works, because in the context of competitions on different topics textile creators are invited to integrate the embroidered unique pieces into their own designs. The title of the competition "Hand in Hand" fits this procedure particularly well; but Hand in Hand can also be understood in the sense of 'tackling something together, striving for a goal together'. In impressive diversity, 46 objects from seven European nations interpret this subject.
