Born in Silesia, Günter Scholz grew up in Zell im Wiesental. At the age of 19, after completing his graphic arts training, he moved to Basel to study at the Kunstgewerbeschule (School of Applied Arts). After five years he completed the course in Cologne and travelled to distant continents such as America, the Far East and Africa to find his artistic power of expression.
The impressions and experiences he gathered there are deeply rooted in his artistic imagination and shaped his pictorial cosmos. The themes of people and landscape, existence and environment are omnipresent in his works, although his artistic path has consistently led him into abstraction. Emotion, but also rationality are perceptible in equal measure in this fantasy world of Günter Scholz.
